Sun Voyager, a steel sculpture by Jon Gunnar Arnason, is located along the north coast of Reykjavik, Iceland, near where I took the photo that would inspire the painting, Across Faxafloi Bay. Photo credit: Monica Hokeilen, 2019.

A Trip to Iceland Inspires Paintings

March 31, 2023

This slide show video (aka “reel” on instagram) shows how my trip to Iceland in 2019 inspired many of my paintings in 2021 and 2022. You can see my painting, Across Faxafloi Bay, at the 931 Gallery in the Santa Fe Arts District in Denver, CO as part of the “Our View” WCACO Members Exhibit from March 24 - April 23, 2023.

I am so grateful that I decided to take a guided tour around Iceland with Arctic Adventures, as I was able to see and learn far more than I would have on my own. I am also grateful for the friends I met along the way!

The Arctic Adventures tour van that brought me and my 3 fellow solo-travelers on a 10-day guided tour of Iceland is shown here during a stop. I think this was at the Grjotagja Cave, above which you can stand simultaneously on two continents.
