Spica

14”x14” oil on canvas

$500

In 2019 I created a small series of paintings of stars and solar flares. This was partly in an effort to branch out from my initial steps into creating space-related art with my MarsScapes, and was definitely out of my comfort zone. But it was a fun change. All three 14"x14" paintings were created in oil on canvas with palette knife, and are named after bright stars in our sky, Betelgeuse (red), Capella (yellow), and Spica (blue).

Spica is a double star system that appears as a bright blue star in the Virgo constellation. The two stars are so close together that they appear as one, only being distinguished with a spectroscope.
