Elk in Snow

24”x18” oil on canvas, framed in natural pine

sold

When painting this elk, I couldn’t decide what setting to place him, and so went through several iterations before settling on a simple snowy scene. This let me incorporate the same colors that are subtly painted onto the elk into the surrouding space. It also let me darken the background behind the antlers, which brought them forward, and lighten the space behind the elk’s rump, bluring those lines and anchoring the elk into its surroundings.

This painting sold when someone noticed my social media posts about a similar painting and reached out for a private viewing of some artwork. So rarely do I get to talk with the buyer about the artwork when they buy it (most of my sales happen during art exhibits), and so it was a joy to sell this painting in that way.
