tree in Charlie’s Field

10”x8” oil on board, framed in barnwood

Charlie was the first goat my family owned when I was a child. He was a gray agouti pygmy goat and his full name was Charles de Goat. Soon there would also be Lady Tilly, Prince William, twins Mike and Ike, etc. The field my family fenced off for the goats is in a corner of their 40 acre farm and contains a small pond in a small wooded valley surrounded by rolling hills and a small wooden barn (where we also raised, at times, chickens, turkeys, and ducks). Eventually my family no longer raised goats (or poultry) and the field was used instead for growing hay and for cows to graze. Today, the field is still called “Charlie’s Field”, and was the location where, in the fall of 2021, I set up my easel to practice plein air painting and created this small painting of a tree. It is framed in barnwood and now hangs in my home.
