Plein Air Painting at River Farm and Green Spring Garden in Alexandria, VA

Since moving to Alexandria, VA, I have taken several art classes with the Art League at the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria. They have all been helpful and fun, but the Plein Air (outside in the open air) class I took last fall was the most challenging. Something about painting a scene from 3D (rather than 2D reference photos in my home studio) challenges the brain just that much more. It was also refreshing and exhilarating and such a high to be outdoors. While I prefer painting in my studio for most subjects, I will definitely continue painting plein air as well.
